PARABASE
INTRODUCED BY MICHAEL OBRIST
WED, 3.6.2026, 19:00 – KUPPELSAAL, TU WIEN

PARABASE is an entity registered by Carla Ferrando and Pablo Garrido Arnaiz in 2023, after working for offices such as Herzog & de Meuron, Foster & Partners, Diener & Diener, and Miller & Maranta.

PARABASE’s work explores alternative perspectives on reuse and other circular strategies, questioning conventional modes of construction and consumption by considering the economy of means, materials, and energy. Buildings are understood as material evidence of social and economic histories, rather than autonomous forms.

PARABASE combines the development and construction of architectural projects with research and teaching. They have previously taught in Mendrisio and Bern, have been visiting professors at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and ETH Zürich, and are currently visiting professors at TU Wien. They have led several workshops, including Porto Academy 2025 and Paraply, and have been invited to participate as jurors and lecturers at institutions such as ETH Zurich, AAM Mendrisio, EPFL Lausanne, Harvard GSD, Cornell AAP, Dropcity Milano, TU München, Polimi Milano, Royal Academy Copenhagen, Oslo University of Architecture, ETSAM Madrid and TU Delft.

PARABASE’s work has received numerous international awards and has been selected for the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale and the 4th Lisbon Triennale. The office is currently developing projects of various scales internationally.
