Yvonne Farrell, together with Shelley McNamara, are 2020 Pritzker PrizeLaureates, who co-founded Grafton Architects, based in Dublin in 1978. In 2018, they were Curators of the  Venice Architecture Biennale. Their manifesto: Freespace was the title of the Biennale.

Recently completed Grafton Architects’ projects include: The Town House Building, Kingston University London; The School of Economics for the University of Toulouse 1 Capitol; Institut Mines Télécom University Building, Paris Saclay; The Marshall Institute, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, for the London School of Economics; Headquarters for Electricity Supply Board (ESB) with OMP architects in Dublin.

Grafton Architects are the recipients of numerous awards, including:
2020 Royal Institute of British Architects Royal Gold Medal - Given in recognition of a lifetime’s work, the Royal Gold Medal is given to a person or group of people whohave had a significant influence on the advancement of architecture.
The Équerre d’argent awards recognise the achievements of architects andlandscape architects in France. Grafton Architects and Toulouse architects Vigneu& Zilio were recognised for their work 2020 on the Toulouse School of Economics.
The EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - the Mies van der Rohe Award – celebrates excellence in architectural works built across Europe. Grafton Architectsreceived this award 2022 for the Town House – Kingston University London.
In 2019, the RIAI awarded the James Gandon Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Architecture to Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. The Gandon Medal is thehighest personal award given to an Architect in Ireland.

Currently, both Farrell and McNamara are Professors at l’Accademia della architettura  di Mendrisio, L’Universita della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland. Theybeen involved in teaching since 1976 as teaching has always been a parallel realityto practice. They initially began teaching in the School of Architecture in University College Dublin and have taught in numerous universities worldwide, holding theKenzo Tange Chair at the Harvard Graduate School in 2010 and The Louis KahnChair in Yale in 2011.
