CONTRADICTIONS: COLIN REYNIER AND LÉONARD LASSAGNE
DATA ARCHITECTES
MODERATION BY WILFRIED KUEHN
THU, 19.3.2026, 19:00 – HS7 SCHÜTTE-LIHOTZKY, TU WIEN

What already exists — what is already present — is probably the primary material of the architectures that DATA Architectes has been developing for nearly twenty years. To transform means to adapt a building to accommodate new uses for which it was generally not designed — all within a climatic and social context, and within regulatory and normative frameworks that often contradict the very principle of its preservation. Yet the constraints of the existing condition constitute, above all, a remarkable field of experimentation: they allow for the non-standard, the specific, and open space for invention.

DATA Architectes is a Paris-based practice recognized for its research-driven approach, combining structural clarity, material precision, and typological experimentation across housing, educational, and public projects. The office is led by Colin Reynier, Maître de conférences (Associate Professor) at the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-Malaquais, and Léonard Lassagne, Maître de conférences (Associate Professor) at the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-Est. Their engagement in both practice and academia informs the conceptual and constructive rigor of the office’s work.
