Act of Building explores the bioregional resource clay and its potential as a building material in the context of Vienna. The design studio series is part of a two-year research and development project at the Institute of Architectural Design, TU Wien, in partnership with Wienerberger and Wiener Linien, and is led by BC architects & studies & materials from Brussels.

In the past winter semester, students from TU Vienna participated in the October School in Brussels, a four-day intensive program organized and hosted by BC studies at their workshop site. The week combined hands-on workshops, lectures, discussions, and excursions, allowing around 120 students, teachers, and practitioners from five European universities—KU Leuven, Hasselt University, RWTH Aachen University, the Estonian Academy of Arts, and TU Vienna—to engage in material experiments, critical reflection, and the exchange of knowledge and methods across contexts. The exhibition Probing Brussels / Challenging Vienna presents selected outcomes from this process. It shows how the approaches, methods, and insights gained in Brussels can be translated into the Viennese context, exploring new ways of working with materials and experimental methods, and transferring knowledge to question and expand established practices in local building culture.
