"Reuse in Teaching – The Future of the Architectural Design Studio explores how working with adaptive reuse is reshaping architectural education. While refurbishing and recycling buildings is becoming mainstream practice, teaching methods in architecture schools have yet to catch up. Working with existing structures in an academic context is demanding – it calls for more time, resources and different approaches to studio work. Based on a research project at TU Wien, this book examines the methodology of three distinct design studios, complemented by contributions from international experts. Unlike most recent publications on adaptive reuse, which focus on case studies of completed projects, Reuse in Teaching addresses the theoretical and pedagogical implications of the shift from new build to an architecture of transformation. It fills a critical gap in architectural discourse, offering a systematic yet multifaceted framework for integrating reuse into design studio teaching."
